Ely area looking good for metals

Duluth Metals, a metals exploration firm, says that six new drill holes near Ely show signs of high-grade copper, nickel and platinum group metals.

"We're highly encouraged by what we see," said Christopher Dundas, chairman of the publicly-traded company. "But we still need to go through the necessary steps of scoping and feasibility."

PolyMet considers shipping bulk ore

PolyMet Mining Co. is considering mining and shipping ore from its proposed copper-nickel and precious metals mine near Hoyt Lakes even as it builds processing facilities at the site.

Permits for the $380 million project would need to be approved before any shipments would begin, said Warren Hudelson, a PolyMet spokesman.
