Numerous big-time, new-era mining projects are advancing on the Range, from Minnesota Steel and PolyMet Mining to Mesabi Nugget and others. … What's on the horizon is a coming renaissance on the Range, that may take the area back to a rebirth of higher-value iron, also steel, and non-ferrous mining.
But big projects need lots of money, and a good deal of time to bring all resources, and technology, together. These big-ticket plans didn't just happen overnight. They are the results of lots of dedicated efforts by many to bring them forward and make them happen. …
Industry leaders, as well as area economic officials and state lawmakers for several decades have been clearing the way for projects to happen. And area businesses, cities and schools are responding to the challenges and opportunities coming up, in readying infrastructure and a workforce to go forward.
All of which speaks well for a new era for the Range.
